Water
pipe
A water pipe supplies
water to the building for various purposes such as drinking, bathing, washing,
flushing of toilets, etc.
Soil
pipe
Soil pipe receives and
conveys discharge from soil fittings such as water closet, urinals, etc.
Waste
pipe
The waste pipe carries
discharge from all sanitary fittings in a house except soil fittings.
Vent
pipe
The drain pipes
carrying waste water and sewage are provided with at least one ventilating pipe
carried sufficiently high above the building. They provide safe outlet for foul
gases in the drain or sewer.
Fresh
air Inlet pipe
All the Inspection
chambers are provided with fresh air inlet pipes for the ventilation of sewers.
Ventilation is necessary to keep the equilibrium of atmospheric pressure at all
the time within the house drain.
Rain
water pipe
Rain water pipe
collects rain water from the building roofs and discharges it into surface
drains.
Anti-siphonage
pipe
It is used to preserve
the water seal in traps by providing ventilation.
If two sanitary fittings
on different floors are connected to a common soil or waste pipe the discharge
from upper fittings while passing down, will dran the air within the branch of
lower fittings. This will create a siphonic action causing the seal of the trap
to break. To overcome this difficulty a separate pipe is fitted on the outlet
side of both the traps.
