CHECK POINTS FOR TESTING OF BRICK BLOCK MASONRY

  • Immediately after receiving the lot bricks must be tested randomly from each truck.


a)     Soundness test
b)    Size and Shape
c)     Strength (laboratory test)
d)    Absorption (laboratory test)

  • Bricks must be soaked completely in the water before using them for masonry.

  • Apply chemical/mortar to column surface (wall portion) and beam soffit for bonding with the masonry/hacking to be done to the surface.

  • During Brick masonry “Frog” (Trade mark on brick) should be kept upper side of the each layer.

  • For 11 cms (4 ½ thick) the and 15 cms (6 thick) brick wall stiffeners (concrete with nominal steel tied like lintel) must be casted at every 1.00 meter height of wall.

  • All the mortar joints in masonry should be not more than 15 mm. Mortar joint just below beam soffit should be with 20 mm aggregate packing. For all joints racking should be done.

  • Screened sand to be used for masonry.

  • Curing should be done for at least 7 days.

  •  Chipped out set mortar along the line of masonry work.

  •  Layout of 1st layer completed and certified.

  • Hacking to RCC Columns and beam bottom where masonry is butting.

  • Openings for door windows, AC units and other (if any)

  • Erection of doors, windows with necessary hold fasts (Hold fast should embedded in concrete)

  • Racking of joints and surface cleaning.

  • Verticality of walls and corners.

  • Thickness of joints as per specification.

  • Patlies with 2 re-bars in patli (in partition walls ½ brick thick)

  • Proportion of mix as per specification (1:5)

  • Wetting of Bricks before use.

  • Availability measurement box (Farmas) for mortar to mix.
