POLYCOAT
This is a synthetic elastomeric
polymerized waterproofing coating material for concrete/plaster/metal/wood
surfaces, exposed stone surfaces, asbestos cement sheet, etc. This is available
as a single component liquid which can be made to any colour using pigment.
Uses
POLYCOAT is primarily meant for
waterproofing external walls. However its formulation makes it suitable for
other applications as well, such as
- Chemical plants and Machinery.
- Interior and exterior decorative applications free of fungus development as invariably likely in other (cement-based) coatings.
- Wooden flush doors and windows.
- Water tanks: overhead and underground.
- Coating of concrete/MS pipelines carrying potable water, raw water or effluents.
- Waterproofing of synthetic wood, like ‘Nuwood’ etc.
In general the surfaces can be
listed as below:
Concrete, plaster, stone,
masonry steel, cast iron, mild steel water pipelines, wood, brick structures,
general chemical plants, concrete structures subjected to chemical attack or
bacterial or other contaminations, water tanks, jetties, sewage plants or other
installations permanently under water may be effectively coated with suitable
grade of POLYCOAT
Properties
POLYCOAT basically gives
protection from water leakages or any damp spots (I.S. 3085/1965).
- It can be offered in any colour shade so that the exteriors can be waterproofed and decorated simultaneously thus eliminating the expenditure on additional painting.
- Unlike cement based exterior coatings, POLYCOAT does not attract fungus, moss, etc. during the monsoons. The exteriors look freshly painted for years.
- When suitably pigmented (viz. Offwhite or ivories, grey, terracotta) it is not affected by ultraviolet rays of sun.
- It protects structures from salt penetration in marine environments.
- It can be suitably modified to become a fire resistant / retardant coating.
- It is unaffected by a wide spectrum of chemicals including some dilute and concentrated acids and alkalis.
- It protects underground structures from attack by ground water sulphates and chlorides when applied on external concrete surfaces.
- When suitably modified it inhibits bacterial growth thus making it suitable for hospital interiors.
- It has a fairly good resistance to abrasion due to normal wear and tear.
Colour
The use of Ivory, white, grey,
terracotta are best suited for exteriors. Available in slightly glossy or Matt
finish.
Instruction for use
- Clean the surface to remove dirt, loose particles, flaking paint, etc. and rub down to a original hard surface. In the case of steel surfaces all scales, rust and grease should be removed. The life and performance is directly dependent on the extent and quality of cleaning.
- Open the container and stir well for 15 minutes to attain even consistency. POLYCOAT is supplied in ready mixed form. However in case it has thickened due to long storage, use specified thinner (upto 5% maximum).
- Apply the coating by brush or spray.
- Depending on the requirement apply two or three coats with a minimum interval of 24 hours between successive coats.

Curing
Self curing coating. It cures
progressively over 3 days, attaining its full strength after seven days.
Packing
20 ltr tin & 4 ltr tin.
Shelf Life
Up to twelve months when stored
in tightly sealed containers. However, periodic bi-monthly stirring is
advisable. Store in a cool and dry place away from fire. One pack system, so no
problem of pot life.

Performance
The application of POLYCOAT
when carried out according to the specified instruction provides a waterproof
surface, which would last up to several years depending on the number of coats
applied. Three coats are recommended. Another fresh coat or even mere touching
up occasionally at a few vulnerable spots should be sufficient to extend the
life of the coating.
