It is the book in which the measurements of all sort of construction work undertaken by the department and material supplied are recorded. The measurements pertaining to the normal periodical services are entered in this book by a Senior J.E./O.S. and offer due checkings accuracy of the measurements is certified by the AEE/AGE/AE/SDO concerned.

The important features of the Measurement Books are as follows:

  • The calculations of periodical services are scrutinised and certified.

  • The quantity of work done is recorded in the bill of the contractor.

  • Measurements are taken accurately. Preferably steel tape is used for taking measurements.

  • All measurements are recorded in ink.

  • No entry is allowed to be erased.

  • If correction is required, it is to be properly authenticated.

  • Measurements are taken in the presence of the contractor and his signature is taken in the measurement book, in token of having agreed to the measurements.

  • Measurements are continuously recorded without interruption.

  • Measurement book forms a basis of payments of all the items of work which can be measured.

  •  It forms the original record of all works/supplies which are measurable.

  • It is an auditable document.

  • The measurement book contains:

  1. Name of work
  2. Name of Contractor
  3. Date of measurement
  4. Location
  5. Date of work order
  6. Number of measurement
