A small water tank, having inside dimensions 3 m x 2 m x 1
m, is to be constructed in brick masonry with cm (1:4). The walls are of one
brick thick. Assume brick size 19 cm x 9 cm x 9 cm. find
Quantity of brickwork
No. of bricks required
No. of cement bags required
Ans.
Data given –
Length of water tank – 3 m
Width of water tank – 2 m
Height of water tank – 1 m
Size of brick = 19 x 9 x 9 cm
It is taken as 20 x 10 x 10 with mortar
Total length of wall
= 3.2 + 3.2 + 2.2 + 2.2 m
= 10.8 m
Quantity of brick work
= 10.80 x 0.20 x 1.00
= 2.16 cu.m.
Quantity of one brick with mortar
= 0.20 x 0.10 x 0.10
= 0.002 cu.m.
No. of brick required
= 2.16/0.002
= 1080 nos.
Cement mortar required
= 1080 (0.20 x 0.10 x 0.10 – 0.19 x 0.09 x 0.09)
= 0.498 cu.m.
Increase 30% for dry mortar
= 0.498 x (130/100)
= 0.647 cu.m.
Cement required
= (0.647 x 1 ) / 5
= 0.129 cu.m.
Cement in bags
= 0.129/0.0345
= 3.75 bags say 4 bags
