SUNJOINT SEAL (PGG)
SUNJOINT SEAL (PGG) is a
specially formulated liquid polysulphide polymer. This is available in two
components polysulphide and curing agent. When mixed it forms a tough flexible,
durable rubber like material which adheres to most common construction
surfaces, steel, glass and glazed ceramics etc. This product meets the
requirements of ASTM C 920(G. GRADE) and / or BS 4254.
Uses
Because of its very high
elastomeric & good adhesive property as well as excellent resistance to
many oils, solvents and other chemicals, it is extensively used to provide
fully waterproof seals in joints in bridges, concrete pavements, floor pre-cast
concrete constructions, subways, basements & building super structures.

Joint design

For cyclic movement joints
should be designed properly to give an optimum width to depth ratio of 2:1.
For porous substrates minimum
sealant depth is 10mm & for nonporous substrates the minimum depth is 6mm.
For horizontal joints the minimum depth should be 12.5 mm maintained and for
joints subjected to traffic or hydraulic pressure the minimum depth should be
20 mm.
Direction for use
The joint surface required to
be primed before application of the sealant. Two primers are available.
SUNJOINTSEAL PRIMER A and
SUNJOINTSEAL PRIMER B.
Preparation of substrate
Surface must be completely dry
and free from all dirt, dust, cement laitance and any deleterious matter. This can
be achieved by wire brushing, followed by blowing clean air. Metallic surfaces
must be free of rust, scale or protective lacquers.
The joint surfaces required top
be primed before application of the sealent.
Two primers are available
SUNJOINTSEAL PRIMER A and SUNJOINTSEAL PRIMER B.
Priming
Use and SUNJOINTSEAL PRIMER A
porous surfaces such as concrete, brick, stone etc.
And and SUNJOINTSEAL PRIMER B
Non porous surfaces such as steel, glazed ceramics, glass etc.
Pour a small amount of the
primer into a clean container and liberally apply a coat of primer with a soft
brush to the required substrate and allow to dry / tack free (20-45 minutes)
before application of the and SUNJOINTSEAL (PGG).
If primer is left for more than
3 hrs, re-priming is required. Clean all brushes immediately with kerosene.
Consumption of primers
SUNJOINTSEAL PRIMER A Approximate.
50-55 Sq.ft/ltr/coat
SUNJOINTSEAL PRIMER B
Approximate. 65-70 Sq.ft/ltr/coat
Backup material
When using filler boards or any
other backup materials, it should be advisable to maintain the design depth
before applying the sealant. In expansion joints, movement accommodation of
sealant will be restricted if it bonds +to the fillers board. It is therefore,
essential to insert bond breaking tape into the joint in order to prevent
adhesion.
Application of SUNJOINTSEAL
(PGG)
The full quantity of curing
agent must be transferred into the large container. Mix for 4-5 minutes by
using a flat bladed stirrer coupled to a slow speed (150rpm) electric drill or
by iron rod. When thoroughly mixed both components should be completely
interdispersed and the material be of uniform color. Then load the mixed
material into sealant gun and apply to the primed surface. In order to displace
any air bubbles present in the sealant caused by mixing and to get good
adhesion, it is advisable to finish by tooling with a rounded spatula or
similar object. The outermost surface of the sealant should finish with a
concave profile. Protect the finished seal from inclement weather and water
contact until initial set has taken place.
