Prerequisite:
Any significant deficiency in
the civil work such as loose or hollow concrete/plaster, exposed reinforcement
steel etc. should be attended to first and the required curing should be done
as per the norms. If the necessary, polymer mortar/concrete should be used for
these repairs. Overall, the surface to be treated by ‘Polyalk WP’ should be
firm.
Specifications:
- Preparation of the surface to be waterproofed is of utmost importance. Cracks other than hairline ones should be widened freed from loose particles and then filled with a mortar consisting of ‘Polyalk EP’, fresh cement and quartz sand in the proportion of 2:5:15 by weight, without adding water. This mortar should be prepared in limited quantities and utilized within 30 minutes.
- Dampen the surface about one hour before you are ready to carry out the next step.
- Prepare a slurry consisting of 1 part by weight of ‘Polyalk WP’ and 1.25 parts by weight of fresh OPC. Ideally the mixing should be done using a low-speed stirrer, but continuous hand-mixing to a lump-free consistency is also adequate. Apply three coats of the above slurry by brush to the damp surface at intervals of min four hours. Prepare only as much slurry as can be utilized within 30 minutes.
- Allow the coating to set for 48 hours and then sprinkle cure for three days.
Note:
A coverage of approximately 50
to 55 sq.ft. can be obtained per kg. of ‘Polyalk WP’ per coat, depending on the
surface finish which increases gradually with subsequent coats.
