A bridge pier consists of following dimensions Top width = 1m, Height = 12m, Length = 8m, Side face batter 1 in 6. Assume end daces to be vertical. Find out the quantities of the following items :

C.R. Masonry in pier.

Cement pointing to the battered faces.

Solution:

CR Masonry in pier

Section A and B are in the triangular prism form,

Hence volume of A & B

= 2 (1/2 x 2 x 12 x 8)

= 192 cu.m.

Section C is in the form of rectangular prism.

Hence volume of C

= 1 x 12 x 8

= 96 cu.m.

Therefor, Total volume of bridge pier

= 192 + 96 cu.m.

= 288 cu.m.

Therefor, Quantity of CR Masonry in the Bridge Pier = 288 Cu.m.

Cement pointing to the battered faces:

There are two battered surfaces which have equal surface area. To find area of battered face, we have to initially find the slant height which is equal to –

= 12.17 m.

Therefor, Total area battered surface

= 2 (8 x 12.17)

= 194.72 Sq.m.

Therefor Qty of Cement pointing to the battered faces

= 194.72 sq.m.
