Safety

This is a key issue for single women. A single building with no security measures is strictly avoidable. A complex with several buildings or better still, a mini township with hi-tech security measures like biometric access, video door phones, etc. is ideal. Such projects can provide peace of mind to single women even if they have irregular work timings. Those who working in call centres, travel and tourism or media sectors and need to leave home very early or return after midnight would definitely feel safer if the security cabin does not allow visitors in the complex premises without first confirming with a resident.

Privacy

The biggest plus point of buying your own home instead of staying as a paying guest or licensee is not being forced to answer awkward questions about your personal and professional life to strangers. Therefore, if is advisable to ensure the position of your flat is such that neither you nor your visitors have to pass by the doors of several neighbours while accessing it. Alternatively, if there are three flats on each floor, with two adjacent to each other and the third at the end of the corriodor, ot for the third, so that you can avoid daily comments on how late you wake up or arrive home, etc.

Infrastructure

One of the concerns about living alone is that commuting facilities need to be available 24x7. Otherwise, catching early morning flights or managing late night medical emergencies can be a problem. Ensure the complex is at a location that has quick access to the main roads and an auto/taxi stand nearby. A bus stop or train station nearby will be an added bonus.

Single women have a tough time managing essentials like shopping for groceries and vegetables, fresh milk, bread, etc. Therefore, a complex with a department store within the premises or nearby is a great help. A restaurant or fast food takeaway that stays open till late at night would really be icing on the cake.

Design

An apartment with an open plan layout, where the kitchen is integrated with the living room is again, perfect for single women. Not only can you keep an eye on visitors while getting refreshments, but also watch television while heating up dinner.

Similarly, depending on your budget, a compact 2BHK is better than a spacious 1BHK and a compact 1BHK is better than a spacious studio apartment. That way in case close relatives land up to stay for a few days, you can still have your ‘me’ time and space.

Returns

Buying a house is not an easy task for a single women. From raising the initial contribution amount to paying home loan EMI’s, it is a financial challenge in many ways. So ensure that all your hard work gets you some returns on the investment made. Pick a location or project with scope for value appreciation so that all the hassles involved are worth it.
