Very often we notice separation
or cracks in locations where brick masonry meet concrete – say a column or slab
due to differential or uneven expansion (or contraction) of the two dissimilar
materials. Also often external crack in plaster are noticed due to shrinkage of
external plaster. These are often inevitable unless adequate precautionary
measures are taken.
The following procedures should
be adopted to repair such cracks:
Ø Open
the cracks into ‘V’ groove; clean and moisten the groove.
Ø Apply a
priming cum bonding coat of POLYALK EP / cement slurry in the proportion 1:0.5
(by wt.) with brush to grooved surface.
Ø Immediately,
fill the groove with polymer modified mortar, which is prepared by mixing
2 kgs.
POLYALK EP
5 kgs.
Cement
15 kgs.
Sand Graded
After
15-20 minutes level the surface with steel trowel.
Ø After
24 hours, cure by sprinkling water for 2-3 days.
Ø Further
finishing process can then follow.
