In carrying out the managerial process, definite communication relationship must be established between manger and subordinates. Forward communication is mainly of a directive nature. Such communication may flow vertically downward through the hierarchy or it may spread horizontally through the intention is to communicate to subordinates the current expectations of management regarding job performance.

The feed-back path takes form as an upward flow of communication which informs the manger concerning performance of employees and/or the problem they may have to face while the work is in progress. Such feedback is related to manager’s control function. Success of an organisation depends on both the kinds of communication. Some channels of communication are formal and involve written words while others may be informal and oral or perhaps even non-verbal in nature. Organisational communication is concerned with the network of communication flow as determined by the structure of the organisation and behaviour of the individuals who operate it.
