The following are the raw materials used for cement production :

1. Limestone

2.Silica

3.Alumina

4.Iron oxide

5.Gypsum

(in addition you require fuel like coal or diesel or any other oil for burning this lime stone, silica, alumina and iron mixture)

Whatever type of cement you produce, never bother, all the above mentioned raw materials with fuel are required compulsory, but their proportions may vary.

These raw materials whether by natural origin or by industrial products can be used for cement manufacture.Mix the above compounds in such that the resultant raw meal material should have the following composition.

CaO          43 - 46 %

SiO2         12 - 15 %

Al2O3       3 - 4 %

Fe2O3       2 - 3 %

LOI           34 - 35 % (LOI - loss on ignition)

Auxillary components:

These are minor impurities like magnesium carbonate, alkalies, chloride, flouride, sulphur, phosporous, chromium etc., which are already  present along with raw materials at some areas.

Before selecting rawmaterials for cement manufacture, ensure that all the above auxillary components in the rawmaterials are to be within the limits to avoid operational and cement quality problems. So always check the rawmaterial composition before selecting.

In cement notation, we basically divide the rawmaterials into two types:

1.Calcareous material : lime based materials

2.Argillaceous material : clayey materials

Total carbonates :

Its a sum of  percentages of calcium carbonate + magnesium carbonate + loss on ignition. Its shortly called as TC in cement lab notation. It was predicted by titration method in chemical analysis.
