Theory
This method is similar to that or compass surveying. The traverse was run in clockwise direction and to details on the line were taking by motion and offsets.

Procedure
- First the proper station was selected A, B, C and at station A the instruments was fixed after setting of leveling station point ‘a’ was marked as.
- From station A orientation to station B and after measuring distance AB. This distance was plotted obtained station point ‘B’ on paper.
- Then the table was shifted to station B after performing the temporary adjustment it was obtained to ‘C’ and after measuring the equal distance ‘BC’ on ground plotted as ‘C’ on paper.
- The procedure was repeated till the remaining station was plotted on paper.
