Marking and transferring levels by using plastic water tube

Theory

This method of transferring levels is based on the principle that a liquid always maintains it’s level.

Item required

Plastic tube, water

Procedure

Before starting the experiment the tube is first filled with water upto about ¾ th of the actual length by keeping the thumb on the one end of the tube. The level is marked. Before this the height is marked at which we wants to transfer the level. The height is then marked by chalk, keeping the one end of the tube is such a way that the water level tube must be coincide with the point at which the levels are taken. Then the another end of the water tube is lowered or rised in such a manner that the height of the water in the tube should not disturb from its original position. In this way the another point is marked. This point is a perfect horizontal line.

Precaution

1.      Clear plastic water tube should be used.

2.    There should be no bubble in water tube.

3.    Water should be clean.

4. Thumb should be kept on the end of the tube to avoid out going of water while transferring level.

5.  Water tube should not be filled completely.
