Theory
When the height above the floor
level exceeds about 1.5 M a temporary structures usually of timber is erected
closed to the work to provide a safe working platform for the workers and to
provide a limited space for the storage of plant and building materials. The
temporary frame work is known as scaffolding.
Application
It is used to provide a safe
working platform for the workers and to provide a space for building materials
and equipments.
Items Required
Standards (Ballis), Ledgers
(Bamboos), Put logs (Wooden Planks), Transforms Braces (Diagonal Members),
Rope.
Procedure
The vertical members called
standards. They are first inserted into the holes made on the ground which
should be perfectly vertical. In this way numbers of standards are placed at a
distance of about 2.4 to 3 M. Horizontal members called ledgers. They are
connected to the standards longitudinally with the help of ropes. The distance
between two ledgers is kept 1 to 1.5 M. These ledgers and standards are
connected by rope lashing. Transverse horizontal members called putlogs. They
are placed whose one end is inserted into the hole made in the wall and the end
is connected to the ledgers. The distance between two put logs is kept about
1.2 M. The put logs are provided to supports the working platform. Braces are
some times provided where the high scaffolding is needed. The braces are placed
diagonally which gives stability to the whole scaffolding.
