• Remove all the loose concrete.

  • Attend to the reinforcement steel as explained separately in the relevant specification.

  • Apply ‘Polyalk EP’ + cement slurry 1:0.5 by weight as primer cum bonding coat on the surface of the old concrete. Immediately, place polymer modified mortar prepared as the following step.

  • Prepare modified polymer mortar in the following proportions:

1 kg ‘Polyalk EP’ + 5 kgs. Cement (fresh OPC) + 15 kgs. Quartz sand (10 kgs. Passing 2 mm + 5 kgs. 1 mm down) + 1 to 1.5 ltrs. Water depending upon the desired consistency. (21 kgs. of this mortar has an approximate volume of 8000 cubic cms.) i.e. 21 kgs. of above mortar will cover 0.8 sq. mts. in 10 mm thickness. Mix by stirrer (hand mixing is not advisable for uniform mixing). Place this mortar by hand on the above primed surface in thickness of 10-15 mm, for each layer. Allow it to initially set. In case of extremely corrosive conditions where sever deterioration has set in, the dose of  ‘Polyalk EP’ may be doubled, other ingredients remaining the same.

  • Apply in layers of similar thickness, till the original form is attained. Finally, finish the surface with a steel trowel. Cure with damp gunny bags, after minimum 48 hours of initial setting time. Please note that a fresh mix needs to be prepared for each layer, or each batch so that the costly polymer mortar is not wasted.
