Gin Poles
It is a simple type of pole
made up of steel or timber which is held vertical by four guys 900
apart. It is used for straight hoisting in case of loading and unloading
operations.
The hoisting can be either
mechanically operated or hand operated. The mechanism can be attached to the
mast or it can be set at some distance from it.
Gin pole is used in the
erection of steel structures and transportation.
Cranes
Present day construction
involves handling of heavy loads with a fast speed, reliability, safety and
economy. For this purpose, cranes are used according to the requirement of the
work. The following are the different types of cranes:
·
Stationary: Derric Crane
·
Mobile Crane: Overhead or gantry
·
Traveller
·
Tower crane
They may be electrically
operated, diesel operated or may have diesel-electric drive.
The crane-shovel with its
variety of attachments is the modern construction equipment. It is the most
commonly used lifting and loading equipment in construction works.

Concrete Mixers
Concrete mixers are used for
mixing the concrete ingredients to make a mix of specified consistency. The large
volume of concrete is required on construction works. Besides, the quality of
mix obtained from the mixers has to be uniform.
There are mainly two types of
concrete mixers, viz 1) Drum Type 2) Pan Type

Concrete Vibrators
Vibrators are used for
compaction of concrete after placement. There are four types of vibrators viz.
·
Internal vibrators
·
Surface vibrators
·
Form vibrators
·
Vibrating tables
Vibrators are driven either by
petrol compressed air or by electricity. Petro-driven vibrators are handy and
useful particularly where compressed air or electricity is not available.

Cable Ways and Belt Conveyors
A band or belt conveyor is one
of the most well-known forms of conveying machinery when huge quantities of
construction material like earth, sand, gravel, etc. conveyed over a long
distance at a faster speed.
Advantage of Belt Conveyors
·
It is smooth in operation.
·
It can convey material uphill gradients.
·
It can transport material in large quantities.
·
It produces less amount of dust.
·
It is reversible.
Disadvantages
·
It is subjected to wear and tear.
·
Difficult to shift the whole unit without
dismantling and damage.
·
Careful alignment is required for satisfactory
results.
Cable Way
A cable way consists of two end
supports, the track cable, the carriage, the traction rope and hoist rope. The supports
are generally braced up towers which may be stationary or mobile running on a
track so that these can move longitudinally to command length perpendicular to
the direction of conveying.
Typical Arrangemnent in a Cable Way
It is used for transportation
of concrete from one place to another, particularly over a restricted area and
deep valleys, where construction of road is not feasible. It enables to hoist
the load and at the same time, it makes possible to move it over a considerable
distance.
